Capital Boulevard Bridge Replacement

Project #B-5121 & B-5317
Type: Bridge Replacement
Affected County: Wake

Wake County has begun planning a project (B-5121 & B-5317) to replace the bridges at the Capital Boulevard interchanges at Peace Street and Wade Avenue. While the bridges are still able to support traffic, the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has classified them as “structurally deficient” due to age.

The replacement project aims to build structurally sound bridges at the Capital Boulevard (US 70/US 401) interchanges at Peace Street and Wade Avenue. Right of way acquisition for this project began in 2015 and construction is expected to begin in 2016.

Construction on these Capital Boulevard bridges will be completed in phases. Construction at the Wade Avenue interchange will begin in September of 2016, while construction on Peace Street interchange will start in the Spring of 2017.
