The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is moving forward with plans to complete a four-lane widening of NC-16, a major arterial highway that runs north-south in eastern Catawba County. Daily traffic on this roadway is expected to rise rapidly over the next few years, and this road widening is part of the DOT’s plan to handle this increased traffic volume.
This project is split into two sections, covering over 9 miles in total:
- Section A: Runs from Tower Road (SR 1895) to Caldwell Road (SR 1814). Section A will affect a total of 165 parcels of land. 119 of those parcels have already been acquired.
- Section B: Runs from Caldwell Road (SR 1814) to Claremont Road (SR 1801). Section B will affect 109 parcels, 28 of which have already been acquired.
Right of way is already in progress for both sections of this project, and hundreds of landowners in Catawba County may be impacted.
