U.S. 221 Widening

Project #R-2915
Type: Road widening
Affected Counties: Ashe & Watauga

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is planning to widen US 221 to four lanes with a grassy median.

The project, also known as TIP No. R-2915, will include a 16.1-mile widened section of highway running from the intersection of US 221 and US 421 in Deep Gap to the NC 88 intersection in Jefferson.

Protected wetlands and waterways are within the path of the project, and as a resident of Blowing Rock, this project is of particular concern to Anne Duvoisin Fisher, a North Carolina land condemnation lawyer at Henson Fuerst.

There are four different sections of Project R-2915. Click each image below to view an expanded map of the project.
